We hung out with Mobi Dixon, the platinum-selling house music producer, at the launch party of his new album ’10 Steps Forward,’ together with some of SA’s most talented artists.
Just sharing the music
We caught up with Mobi Dixon during the evening’s celebrations. He shared some great insights into his new album. “It’s not really any secret recipe, man. It’s just me expressing the talent that I’ve been blessed with. Just sharing the music with the people, expressing myself, and being true to myself, and fortunately, it has been well-received. The album is really something special. It is really something to look forward to. It’s a body of work, which is some stuff, you know, a lot of different textures, a lot of different tastes. It’s an album you can just put in and play, enjoy, have a party too. If you want to dance to it, you can dance to it. If you want to sit and chill to it, you can chill to it. It’s a very well-rounded project.”
He then touched on the influence that music streaming apps like JOOX have on the industry, “I think streaming is huge, man. I think house music can really benefit from this, because house music, you know, people listen to songs time and time again. The songs can be everlasting. They can become classics. And with streaming, they can go back and stream and stream, you know. So I think it’s a good genre for streaming”
The launch was epic
The launch event was an epic party. Lebza The Villain, DJ and producer, enjoyed the launch. He thought it hit the mark. “So, first of all, if you’re not here, then you’re missing out because
this is exclusive, baby!” Nontobeko Ntuli thought the party was wonderful. “It’s lit, is what they say, yes. People are having fun, enjoying themselves, having beverages, you know, so it’s nice.”
What did the guests think of his new album?
We went on to socialise with the party guests and found out what they thought of Mobi Dixon’s new album. We bumped into Mo Flava, DJ and Metro FM radio personality, and he had this to share. “Tonight is a listening session, which what I think is his presentation of the album, which is coming out soon. So, I’m excited. Bhutiza is not only a single that I’ve heard, it’s a single that I bump on my radio show. It’s a big song and Nichume is a talented singer. You know, the last collabo with Kwesta is good as well.”
Other artists at the event had excellent things to say about Mobi Dixon’s new album too. Terrence McKay, the ‘SA’s Got Talent’ semi-finalist, shared, “I’m here to support a brother, legend in house music, Mobi Dixon, man. The fact that he was able to fuse hip-hop and house music by involving Kwesta, it is magic.
More artists lined up to lay praise on Mobi’s new album. Mtha from ‘The Muffinz’ band, gave us a detailed breakdown of what he thought about the album. “So, I’ve been listening to some of the music, man. I like some of the features, man. The features are dope. Shekhinah being in there. Lungisa being on there. I also like the idea that Tamara Dey is on there. Mobi Dixon is represented well right now because this his brand and this is exactly what you find. What you see is what you get when you talk Mobi Dixon.”
DJ Fourtee, had kind words to say about Mobi. “He is one of those guys that you always respected. He is one of those guys that I look up to in this game.”
